Week 2: Brave the Block Like It’s a Catwalk (Messy Bun Included)

You’ve made it to Week 2, mama. You’re knee-deep in lanolin, mesh underwear, and midnight snacks that somehow taste better at 3:47 a.m. If you’ve been mostly horizontal for the past 10-ish days? Good—that was the assignment.

But now you might be wondering about walking 2 weeks postpartum—like, is it okay to step outside yet? Just a few steps. Maybe to the mailbox. Maybe down the block.

But maybe, just maybe, you’re getting that itch.

The one that whispers, “Should I try going outside today?”
Just a few steps. Maybe to the mailbox. Maybe down the block. Maybe past your neighbor’s house who still hasn’t brought in their Halloween pumpkins (it’s July).

If your body’s giving you a cautious thumbs up and your provider hasn’t said “nope, not yet,” then yes, this is your invitation to treat that sidewalk like your personal postpartum runway.

But First: Check In With the Boss (That’s You)

Healing looks different on everyone. ACOG notes that some light walking can be a great way to gently support circulation, mood, and even milk supply in the second week postpartum, as long as you’re feeling up to it and not dealing with complications like heavy bleeding, dizziness, or C-section pain.

If the idea of putting on real pants makes you want to cry, skip it. There’s no prize for laps—only comfort points for honoring your limits.

The Outfit: Function Over Fashion (but still kinda iconic)

  • The messy bun: effortlessly chic, strategically greasy.
  • Nursing bra: Probably unhooked on one side, zero regrets.
  • Oversized hoodie: Possibly your partner’s. Even better if it smells like home.
  • Slippers disguised as real shoes: Comfort is queen.
  • The baby carrier: Optional. You can strut solo or with your plus-one attached.

What Counts As “Braving the Block”

  • A 90-second lap to the end of the driveway
  • Sitting on your porch with a cold drink and baby on your chest
  • Taking the recycling out while whispering “I’m Beyoncé” under your breath
  • Walking to the corner and texting a friend “I did it” before turning back like a legend

Walking 2 Weeks Postpartum: Why It Matters (Even If It’s Tiny)

Going outside doesn’t need a reason beyond you. Fresh air, sunlight, and a little movement can shift everything—even if you’re in a spit-up stained hoodie holding a plastic cup of iced coffee you’ve reheated twice.

A Final Thought From Your Everyboob Hype Squad

Every walk, every waddle, every deep breath on the porch while baby naps on your chest is part of your becoming. Each step belongs to your now.

So if you get out there this week, even for five minutes, we see you. Brave. Beautiful. Bunned up and beaming.

And if not? No rush. The block will be there when you’re ready.
